Menaquinone-7 (MK-7)
There are various forms of vitamin K. Vitamin K2 is a term that refers to the so-called menaquinones, usually abbreviated as MK. The most well-known are MK-4, MK-7, MK-8, and MK-9. Of these, menaquinone-7 (abbreviated as MK-7) is particularly in the spotlight.
A traditional Japanese dish called natto, made from fermented soybeans, is found to be particularly rich in MK-7. Scientific research by Ikeda and Yaegashi has shown that intake of MK-7 from natto leads to higher levels of activated osteocalcin, and a noteworthy reduction in the risk of bone fractures.
MK-7 can be excellently combined with calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, zinc, boron, copper, and manganese.
