Multivitamins for during and after pregnancy
For more information on Pregnancy Multivitamins, please visit our pregnancy information page, where you can read more about the vitamin and mineral dosages recommended by nutritional authorities. Based on these recommendations, we particularly recommend the Prenatal by Vitaminhealth (2-per-day), the Elke Dag Mama Tablets by Vitals (1-per-day), the Prena Fem by Orthica (2-per-day), and the 106 Multi Pregnancy by AOV (2-per-day). These all contain at least 15 mg of iron and 10 mcg of vitamin D. The latter three also contain the recommended 150 mcg of iodine, an important mineral. The Elke Dag Mama even provides 28 mg of iron, 25 mcg of vitamin D, and 150 mcg of iodine.
Below you will find an overview of all our pregnancy multivitamins. These are also excellent for use before and after pregnancy. Other supplements for preparing for pregnancy can be found on the collection page Fertility. Pregnancy multivitamins can be excellently combined with fish oil or supplements based on the omega-3 fatty acid DHA.
More information about the pregnancy multivitamins
During pregnancy, your body, and that of your baby, needs a daily supply of the right nutrients. A pregnancy multivitamin can help prevent you or your baby from developing a deficiency in any of these important substances.
The well-known Prenatal Nutrients by Solgar was originally a 4-per-day multi and provides at that dosage 28 mg of iron, 10 mcg of vitamin D, and 150 mcg of iodine. In the Netherlands, however, this multi is sold as a 2-per-day multi, providing relatively low dosages of vitamin D and iodine. Those who can afford it can safely take 3 to 4 tablets per day of this multi. The reason this was originally a 4-per-day multi is due to the amount of calcium and magnesium in the tablets (per 4 tablets that is 1304 mg and 454 mg), two minerals that take up a lot of space. For comparison: the Elke Dag Mama provides only 30 mg of calcium and 30 mg of magnesium. This allows the other nutrients to be generously dosed in one tablet. The Prena Fem by Orthica has not contained any calcium or magnesium since the end of 2015, but it is still a 2-per-day formula.
