Evening Primrose Oil
Evening Primrose Oil is primarily known as a source of the omega-6 fatty acid GLA (gamma-linolenic acid). The oil is extracted from the seeds of the Oenothera biennis.
Evening Primrose Oil - Additional Information
In the Netherlands, we have been familiar with evening primrose oil for many years through the brand Efamol, which stands for Essential Fatty Acid MOLecule, as well as through products like Solgar's Evening Primrose Oil. Although initially all GLA supplements were based on evening primrose oil, in recent years, more manufacturers have switched to borage (Borago officinalis) as a raw material. This oil contains a much higher percentage of GLA, allowing capsules to be produced much more cost-effectively. Evening primrose oil and borage oil can therefore be used for exactly the same purposes.
