Deacidification
Deacidification and More Information About Acidity:
Our body functions best when our blood has a pH level between 7.35 and 7.45. This is close to the pH level of seawater (between 7.5 and 8.4). A lower pH value indicates a more acidic environment. When the pH of our blood is lower than 7.35, we speak of acidosis. Life is only possible when the pH value is not lower than 6.8.
In some parts of our body, an acidic environment is actually desirable (consider the stomach, which has an optimal pH value between 1.35 and 3.50). However, blood that is too acidic can cause various problems.
Once digested, food leaves behind either an acidic or alkaline residue. The taste of a product does not determine whether it has an acidic or alkaline effect on the body. For instance, a lemon tastes acidic, but it is an alkaline food. Meat, on the other hand, is particularly acidifying. Eggs, fish, bread, and cheese are also considered acid-forming foods. Whereas vegetables and fruits have an alkalising effect. Sodium bicarbonate (better known as baking soda) also has a strong alkalising effect.
There are also special dietary supplements that have an alkalising effect, such as the Alka Drops. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage, as blood that is too alkaline is also not good. A pH value higher than 7.8 is, for example, life-threatening. It is therefore advisable to regularly check your pH levels using pH test strips.
