Vedat wrote earlier last June about the high dosage of B6. Your explanation is absolutely clear, for which I thank you. However, I had exactly the same thought. The label on vitamin B6 states that the 6 mg contains 429% of the RDA. I interpret that as over four times the RDA. I happen to know about the safe upper limit, but when you read it this way, it seems like a lot. Does the RDA assume a minimum?

Although the RDA does not necessarily refer to an absolute minimum, it does describe an amount that generally is considered "sufficient" to prevent physical complaints.

It does not necessarily indicate the optimal amount. What is considered optimal varies from person to person and situation to situation. For instance, a professional athlete will have a much higher requirement for certain nutrients (including vitamin B6 and magnesium) than someone who does not exercise. A pregnant woman has a higher need for certain substances (such as iron, folic acid, and iodine) than a non-pregnant woman.

The RDA values should therefore be seen as general guidelines.

For some vitamins and minerals, in addition to the RDA value, there is also an official safe upper limit, while for others, such a limit has not been established.

500% of the RDA is therefore not unusual. For some nutrients, such as vitamin B12, dosages of up to 50,000% of the RDA are not uncommon. For other nutrients, such as vitamin A, dietary supplements typically contain only about 100 to 150% of the RDA, because higher dosages of the vitamin can be dangerous.

The Magnesium Bisglycinate contains vitamin B6 in the coenzyme form of P5P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate). No cases of accumulation and neuropathy have been reported with this form of B6. There is an obvious explanation for this: this form of B6 is already in the converted form, so the body can use it directly and eliminate it if necessary. In contrast, the regular form of B6 (Pyridoxine HCl) must first be converted in the body, and if that process does not happen efficiently enough, then B6 can start to accumulate. P5P is therefore considered a safer alternative to regular B6 and is increasingly used in supplements.

May I dissolve the capsule in water? Or take it with yoghurt or something similar? I have difficulty swallowing, and sometimes the capsule opens in my mouth. I find that troublesome because I do need it.

The capsules can be opened and mixed with water or yoghurt or another food substance. You might also consider options like apple sauce or a smoothie.

This formula is indeed available in both the Vitaminsports version and with the Vitaminhealth label. The content of the Magnesium Bisglycinate is exactly the same as the Magnesium Bisglycinate (NZVT).

The bisglycinate form of magnesium is absorbed more efficiently in, among other places, the brain. Furthermore, this formula contains multiple nutrients that support absorption and effectiveness.

One thing to keep in mind is that the dose per daily serving is lower. Two capsules provide a total of 100 mg of elemental magnesium, while Magnesium Citrate tablets provide 400 mg of elemental magnesium per two tablets. This is partly because magnesium citrate is much more compact, and partly because magnesium bisglycinate is in vegicaps, which hold less than tablets.

Both have their advantages. If you are particularly interested in the influence on the brain (alertness, reaction time, mental energy, mood), then the bisglycinate variant is preferred. If you are mainly interested in compensating for the loss of large amounts of magnesium (as in endurance sports), then you might choose the citrate variant.

Of course, you can try both for a period to see which one suits you best.

Why has so much B6 been added? It is well above the recommended daily allowance. Can this cause health problems after prolonged use? I have just bought a jar, but now I'm worried about using it after hearing alarming stories about vitamin B6 overdose.

The official safe upper limit for vitamin B6 in the Netherlands is 100 mg per day, with considerations being made to lower this amount to 25 mg. The Magnesium Bisglycinate contains many times less than this, namely 6 mg. This is a safe dosage that can be used for an extended period.

The percentages refer to the Recommended Daily Amount (RDA). These are advisory dosages, not maximum dosages or even optimal dosages. Vitamin B6 is a very important nutrient. Both an excess and a deficiency can cause physical complaints.

In this product, vitamin B6 has been added to support the functioning of magnesium. Vitamin B6 and magnesium work together in various processes within the body.
