Effective against fatigue complaints. Even during breastfeeding, my child receives the necessary benefits. And the vitamin C keeps our immune system (mother and child) in check.
Very satisfied and good
Vitamin C powder in the buffered form of magnesium ascorbate is suitable for those who have difficulty tolerating ascorbic acid. Since magnesium ascorbate is less acidic than ascorbic acid, it typically doesn't cause gastrointestinal discomfort. If a higher intake of vitamin C is desired, it's best to opt for a non-acidic form like magnesium ascorbate. Additionally, this product has the advantage of containing 225 mg of magnesium per scoop, which can be useful if magnesium supplementation is also needed. Vitamin C powder is also suitable for individuals (or children) who find swallowing tablets difficult. The amount of powder can be adjusted to personal needs using the included scoop.
Function of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is perhaps the most mentioned vitamin, primarily known for its positive influence on immunity. Indeed, vitamin C supports the immune system, especially during periods of intense physical exertion or in cold environments. However, this vitamin is involved in numerous processes.
Vitamin C functions in the body as a water-soluble antioxidant and plays an important role as a free radical scavenger. It is part of a complex system of endogenous antioxidants, dietary antioxidants, and antioxidant enzymes with interdependencies and interactions. In this capacity, it is involved in protecting DNA, proteins, and fats from oxidative damage, thereby contributing to the maintenance of healthy cells and tissues. Additionally, vitamin C is needed as a co-enzyme for three different enzymes involved in collagen formation (the most common structural protein in the human body). Normal collagen formation is important for bones, cartilage, gums, skin, tendons, and blood vessels.
Vitamin C is required as a co-factor for dopamine beta-monooxygenase (DBM), the enzyme that converts dopamine into noradrenaline and adrenaline. Both function in the body as neurotransmitters and hormones, thus vitamin C positively influences the functioning of the nervous system and contributes to normal psychological functioning. Vitamin C is indispensable for two enzymes involved in the production of carnitine, which is necessary for the transport of long-chain fatty acids to the mitochondria for energy production.
In this way, vitamin C supports energy levels. It can also help with fatigue. Moreover, many people, particularly women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and (young) children, do not get enough iron through their diet. Vitamin C ensures that iron from food is better absorbed. This pertains to non-heme iron, found in both plant and animal foods. Vitamin C does not affect the absorption of heme iron, which is only present in animal products. About 90% of the iron in food is non-heme iron, with only 10% being heme iron. As an electron donor, vitamin C can convert oxidised vitamin E back into its active, reduced form, thereby maintaining the function of vitamin E.

What is the difference between this product and the other version with calcium ascorbate? Why would you choose one over the other? Thank you!
The difference between magnesium ascorbate and calcium ascorbate is that in the former, vitamin C is bound to the mineral magnesium, whereas in the latter, it is bound to the mineral calcium. Therefore, the intake of these ascorbates provides not only a certain amount of vitamin C but also additional magnesium or additional calcium.
Preference is usually given to magnesium ascorbate because the magnesium status of most Dutch people leaves much to be desired. This is in contrast to the calcium status. The average Dutch diet provides around 1000 mg of calcium daily, which is generally sufficient for the body's daily functioning. However, even with a healthy diet, food today often contains less magnesium than the daily requirement. Especially when we lead a busy lifestyle or experience stress, our bodies tend to consume more magnesium than we take in. Many Dutch people therefore have a magnesium deficiency and would benefit from additional magnesium intake.
Dear Vitaminestore, How much can I give my 3-year-old daughter and my 11-month-old baby of this?
For an 11-month-old baby, the Baby Plex might be more practical (e.g. 44 mg of vitamin C per 1 ml serving), but otherwise a small pinch of the powder. If you have an accurate scale, then about 55 mg of powder. This will provide approximately 50 mg of vitamin C and 5 mg of magnesium. The official recommended dosage of vitamin C for children aged 1 to 2 years is 25 mg per day. From that perspective, the suggested 50 mg is a generous but safe dose. The small amount of magnesium is also not an issue.
For your 3-year-old daughter, four times this amount is fine, so about 220 mg of powder, which would provide 200 mg of vitamin C and 20 mg of magnesium. The official recommended dosage for children aged 2 to 5 years is 30 mg of vitamin C per day, but 200 mg per day is not dangerous and can be useful in some situations.
Is there a known contraindication between this product and other medications (immunosuppressive drugs)?
There are no contraindications for vitamin C. Vitamin C in food is necessary for the normal functioning of the immune system, as well as for natural collagen production and many other essential bodily processes. It is perfectly fine to take vitamin C alongside immunosuppressive medication, unless this vitamin is specifically mentioned in the leaflet of your medication. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
The package contains a measuring scoop with a capacity of 2.5 ml, which provides 2250 mg of vitamin C. From this amount, you can give 1/10, which is about 225 mg of vitamin C per day (and in case of increased need, 225 mg twice a day). The aforementioned pinch should correspond roughly to this amount of powder. If you have a milligram scale at home, you can measure out 250 mg of powder with it.
If diarrhoea occurs, you should reduce the dosage.
