My partner always opens the capsules and adds the B12 powder to the daily porridge, is that okay? And is part of the capsule's contents sufficient, for example, can we share one capsule a day?
It's generally not a problem to open the capsules and add the powder to the porridge. The absorption of vitamin B12 occurs in the stomach and it is water-soluble, so it can be taken in this manner.
Regarding the dosage, vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin and the body will excrete any excess. However, the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for adults is set at 2.8 micrograms per day. The Solgar Vitamin B-12 500 µg capsules contain a significantly higher dosage than the RDA. It is possible to share a capsule, but do keep in mind that the absorption of vitamin B12 is complex and not all ingested vitamin B12 is absorbed by the body.

Is this tablet also suitable for a nearly 5-year-old who does not eat meat? There is a warning regarding B6, not B12. Previously, we gave your house brand super B12 twice a week...
Those warnings have been added automatically based on word recognition. In the description, Solgar indeed mentions B-6. I will ask my colleague to remove this manually.
These capsules are suitable for a 5-year-old, provided you open the capsules and mix the powder into something.
Better than just B12 is a good children's multivitamin, so the child also receives enough of the fat-soluble vitamins A and D, as well as iron, etc. A recommendation is the Elke Dag Junior. The Elke Dag Junior provides B12 in the well-absorbed forms of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, at a dosage of 10 mcg per day (400% of the Recommended Daily Allowance). The Elke Dag Junior is suitable for vegetarians.
Vegetarianism (plant-based diet supplemented with eggs and/or dairy) is safer than veganism, especially for a growing child. Even with the use of B12 or other dietary supplements, serious deficiencies can occur. Dietary supplements should not replace a varied diet.
Is this B12 supplement suitable for vegans?
Yes. All B12 supplements on our site are suitable for vegans.
Vegans are, after all, the primary target audience for this type of product (vitamin B12), and a manufacturer would sell very little if the product contained animal ingredients.

Can I take the Solgar B12 500 along with the Mega Multi store brand?
Yes, that combination is perfectly fine. You may take them simultaneously.
Dear Sir/Madam, I have a question regarding the intake of B-12 supplements. On the website of the Nutrition Centre, I found the following excerpt: Vitamin B12 supplements The use of vitamin supplements is not necessary for most people, as it does not provide any additional health benefits. If you do take a vitamin supplement, the advice is not to exceed 100% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA). This information can be found on the label. In the case of vitamin B12, you should not take more than 2.8 micrograms per day via a supplement. Now I see that most pills contain 500 or even 1000 micrograms, which is significantly more than the recommended daily amount. Could you tell me why the amount in the pills is so high? Kind regards, Dave
Those who eat a varied diet (including ample amounts of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy) and absorb B12 well in the stomach do not require any additional B12.
Those who do not eat a varied diet (for example, vegans) need to take extra B12. For maintenance, a minimum dosage of 2.8 mcg per day could be taken. However, this is somewhat risky, as taking just enough B12 (according to official guidelines) means you could indeed face a deficiency. The same official bodies have told us for decades that 2.5 mcg of vitamin D per day is more than sufficient and that you should definitely not take more than 10 mcg per day. In the meantime, both the minimum and maximum doses have been significantly increased. The Dutch public has been misled for decades.
It is better to take a bit more vitamin B12 than necessary than too little. Small excesses are easily excreted, but small deficiencies can lead to nerve damage. Therefore, as a vegan, it is better to take around 50 to 100 mcg per day rather than just 2.8 mcg.
If there is a confirmed deficiency, because B12 from food is not well absorbed in the stomach, it is best to address this deficiency with a high dose, for example, 500 to even 2500 mcg per day for several weeks. Even from that B12, the body may absorb a limited amount, for instance, 10%, but 10% of 1000 mcg is still 100 mcg (which is fine), whereas 10% of 2.8 mcg is only 0.28 mcg: a far too low amount.
