This product contains zinc in the form of zinc bisglycinate. In this form, each zinc particle is powerfully bound (chelated) to two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. The general term for such a compound is amino acid chelate or amino acid chelated mineral. The word 'chelate' comes from Greek and means 'claw'.

Hello, is this product also suitable for children from 4 years old? How much zinc can children have per day? I also see higher doses mentioned. Best regards, Kim
On 23 june 2019 by Customer serviceThere is little precise information available regarding the maximum and ideal dosages of zinc for children. Ideally, children should obtain all their nutrients through a healthy, varied diet. The best sources of zinc are meat and shellfish, followed by legumes (though these also contain phytates that can partially hinder zinc absorption), seeds, nuts, dairy, and eggs. Grains also contain zinc, but like legumes, they contain phytates as well.
Regarding dietary supplements, it also depends on whether it is for a temporary therapeutic purpose or for general maintenance. A high dose of zinc is particularly problematic with prolonged use, as over time (i.e., after several months), an imbalance of other minerals (especially copper but also iron) can occur. However, if used for, say, a month, this is less relevant.
The Nutrition Centre states that 6 mg (from healthy food) is the daily requirement for a child aged 2 to 5 years, and 10 mg (from dietary supplements) is the safe upper limit for children aged 4 to 6 years.
Children's multivitamins usually provide between 1 and 5 mg of zinc per daily dose.
However, again, if it is for a temporary therapeutic application, then a 4-year-old child can reasonably use a slightly higher dose for a few weeks if desired.
Zinc is available in lozenges. Very practical for young children is the Bio-Influ-Zink from Pharma Nord. This provides 2.5 mg of zinc and 7.5 mg of vitamin C per lozenge/chewable tablet. You can give 1 to 4 lozenges as needed, preferably spread throughout the day.
