Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a herb native to India, South Asia, Central Asia, and parts of Africa, which is not yet widely known in Western countries. In Ayurvedic health practices, ashwagandha has been used for over 4000 years in the form of tea, syrup, ointment, tincture, or powder.

What makes ashwagandha special is its strong adaptogenic (stabilising and homeostasis-promoting) effect. It is often used in stressful situations as it has a calming and soothing effect. The active compounds in the root extract have a regulatory effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and can help maintain normal cortisol levels.
