7 Questions for Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics
What is important for healthy skin from the inside out? Which influences are the worst for the skin? What should you pay attention to when choosing skincare products? In this Q&A, we speak with Michelle, Trainer and Product Specialist at Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics.
Can you give a brief introduction to Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics?
“Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics contains only the best that nature has to offer for your skin. Products that support the skin's restorative ability and align with the natural rhythms and processes of the skin. This means we sometimes approach things differently than you might be used to, such as balancing oily skin with oil. This gives the sebaceous glands the signal that there is already enough oil present, thereby reducing oil production. The products do not contain synthetic fragrances and dyes, preservatives, silicones, PEGs, and mineral oils. Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics is cruelty-free and our products are certified according to the strict international NATRUE standard. Our treatments are also unique; the holistic approach ensures relaxation, resolves blockages, and provides infinite calm. Naturally, the treatments also support the skin's natural rhythm and functions, with lymph stimulation using gentle brush strokes at the heart of the treatment.”
What does the skin say about your health?
“As humans, all the parts that make us up are inextricably linked. Your skin envelops you as a person and shows how you are doing. So, for the expert, there are signals that your skin gives which tell us more about our overall mental and physical health. It could be a hormonal glitch, stress, a sensitivity, or an incorrect lifestyle; your skin will try to tell you. But also, the seasons, stimuli, and pollution in your environment have their impact. Your skin gives signals, and it is the challenge to see what the cause might be and naturally adjust your care accordingly, but also to see if you can change something about the cause.”
What is important for healthy skin from the inside out?
“Your skin essentially reflects how you are doing; being healthy on the inside manifests as healthy, balanced skin on the outside. One almost cannot exist without the other; a healthy diet consisting of fresh, preferably organically grown food, or at least grown without the use of pesticides and hormone-disrupting substances, and a healthy lifestyle that also pays attention to your mental health, form the foundation.”

"Work with your skin and its regenerative ability, do not go against it."
Which influences are the worst for the skin?
“Too little sleep, too much stress, pollution, spending too long in the sun unprotected, eating food with little nutritional value, these are all influences that can cause accelerated skin ageing or imbalance in the skin. Incorrect beauty routines, such as (too much) scrubbing, can also play a role. We are not fans of peels or scrubs; the skin regenerates itself in 28 days. By using a scrub or peel, you actually disrupt this natural process of the skin. Young cells that are not yet mature or developed enough suddenly come to the surface of the skin and are not mature enough to protect your skin. This can lead to thin or sensitive skin. We prefer to use a gentle deep cleansing that is very effective but does not disturb the balance and only removes dirt and truly dead skin cells.”
What trends do you see at the moment?
“Hopefully not a trend but a growing awareness that there are many substances you would rather avoid because they can disrupt the natural functioning of the body, with effects that are also noticeable on the skin. Being kind to yourself and taking good care of yourself, with consciously chosen products and going back to the basics in your care. So maybe a smaller number of products but essential and of good quality. Additionally, I see more and more supplements being offered that have an effect on the skin, such as collagen. Furthermore, a beautiful healthy skin with a glow is increasingly what we want. I find that beautiful and also amusing, because that is what we have been calling the Dr. Hauschka glow for years. And you want to let beautiful healthy skin shine and not hide it under a thick layer of makeup, which you can see in the 'no makeup' makeup look. It's nice to see that our vision of makeup also seamlessly aligns with this trend. Makeup that contains ingredients that also care for your skin and make it glow! Lastly, I see that consumers are fortunately also increasingly looking at sustainability, what ingredients are used, but also how the chain of growth, bloom, harvest, and packaging is structured.”
With which products can you keep your skin as fresh, young, and radiant as possible?
“With products that match the current condition of your skin, whether it's a bit dry, a bit sensitive, or somewhat slack. This naturally changes over months and years. And products that are purely natural and allow your skin to be active itself, so they support the skin's natural ability to renew and repair itself. By following our beauty ritual, you ensure that the skin receives exactly the care it needs at the time of day and what the skin is working on at that moment. The steps in our beauty ritual for the day are cleansing, strengthening, and caring and protecting against external influences, and at night the skin is busy with cell renewal and waste removal. A different task, so a different type of product is required. The steps in the night care are also 3, cleansing and strengthening the skin and then revitalising with a breathable product so the skin can regenerate optimally.
What should you pay attention to when choosing skincare products?
“Use your skin condition as a guide, delve into what your skin is trying to tell you about your health. Choose pure natural skincare that does not contain hormone disruptors or ingredients that create a fantastic lather but meanwhile dry out your skin. Work with your skin and its regenerative ability, do not go against it. Do you want to be sure that the products are truly of natural origin? Look for the NATRUE label on the packaging. This is the strictest label for natural cosmetics – the products must all be 100% natural and cruelty-free, and water, for example, cannot be counted as a natural ingredient. All our products carry this label. Unfortunately, there is still no good legislation for this, so it is reassuring for consumers to know that you have this as a guideline.”
