Whey Concentrate
When milk is treated with certain enzymes (rennet), a curdled mass (the curd) is formed from which cheese is made, and a light yellow, slightly acidic liquid remains. This is whey water or, simply put, whey. By means of warm air, all the water is extracted from the whey, leaving a powder. This powder is then filtered through cold cross-flow microfiltration. This keeps the protein content as high as possible, while most of the carbohydrates and fats are left behind. The result is a protein powder with a protein content of about 78%, with the protein structure remaining intact; the concentrate.

Whey Isolate
In the case of whey isolate, this process goes a step further. Further cold cross-flow microfiltration takes place, resulting in even smaller particles. This makes it possible to filter out virtually all carbohydrates and fats from the whey. The result is a protein content of up to 93%.

Whey Hydrolysate
To achieve the most absorbable and purest protein, it needs to be filtered even further. However, this is a very costly process. Additionally, whey isolate can also be hydrolysed. Hydrolysis ensures that the proteins of the whey isolate are 'cut' into smaller particles by enzymes. This is comparable to the digestion process in your gut. The whey protein is then, as it were, pre-digested. This results in di- and tri-peptides, the smallest possible particles in which you can get proteins while they remain intact. This makes the protein easily digestible.
