I have been using this product for 3 years. I really can't live without it, which is both scary and wonderful at the same time :) Fortunately, they are not too expensive ;)
Forget citrate. Bisglycinate is truly well absorbed.
This product contains magnesium in the form of magnesium bisglycinate. Here, each magnesium particle is powerfully bound (chelated) to two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. The general term for such a compound is amino acid chelate or amino acid chelated mineral. The word 'chelate' comes from Greek and means 'claw'.
Magnesium is one of the minerals most commonly used in complementary practice. One reason for this is that magnesium plays an important role in more than 300 physiological processes in the body. Additionally, due to the current dietary pattern (with relatively little magnesium-rich food such as green vegetables and nuts), it is likely that not everyone is getting enough magnesium. This mineral should therefore be considered as basic supplementation. However, it is crucial to be aware of the quality differences that exist between magnesium products and know how to make a good choice.
Organic and inorganic
There are different magnesium compounds used in supplements. An important distinction that must be made here is whether it is an organic or inorganic mineral compound. Inorganic mineral compounds (which occur in the soil and are absorbed from it by plants, such as magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate) generally have low bioavailability compared to organically bound mineral compounds such as gluconates, citrates, and amino acid chelated minerals.
Benefits of amino acid chelated minerals
The chelate structure in an amino acid chelate such as magnesium bisglycinate is strong enough not to be split under the influence of gastric juice or digestive enzymes (as usually happens with other mineral compounds), but also weak enough so that the mineral element can be released once it has been absorbed by the cells in the intestine. The amino acids fold around the mineral element and protect it during the digestion process and do not let go. Also, the electrical charge of the chelate is neutral, so it does not get stuck to food particles in the stomach and intestines. The amino acid chelate thus reaches the small intestine in its entirety, where it is absorbed as a dipeptide (compound with two amino acids). This is very beneficial because the body can absorb amino acids (and especially dipeptides) extremely easily. Especially if they consist of the amino acid with the smallest size, namely glycine. As a result, amino acid chelated minerals are many times more absorbable than other mineral forms. In the epithelial tissue of the jejunum (middle part of the small intestine), the amino acid chelated mineral is brought into the mucous cells by means of active transport without competing with other minerals. Only in the mucous cells do metabolic processes ensure that the glycine and the mineral are split and become available for the various organs and systems in the body.
Amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals
Vitals exclusively uses genuine amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, the expert in the field of amino acid chelates, recognizable by the TRAACS® trademark, which stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System. This brand was created to clearly distinguish from other, possibly inferior, unstable amino acid chelates. Albion has registered more than 100 patents worldwide that guarantee the process, science, and structure of their amino acid chelated minerals. Furthermore, research is conducted with their minerals and quality research is carried out on every batch produced. It is essential to check that chelate formation has actually taken place and that the bonds are strong enough.
Studies with magnesium bisglycinate
Several studies have been conducted confirming the effectiveness of magnesium bisglycinate. Some of these compared the absorbability of magnesium bisglycinate with different magnesium compounds, such as magnesium carbonate, magnesium sulfate, and magnesium oxide. Magnesium bisglycinate was absorbed significantly faster and better than the other forms of magnesium. Magnesium oxide performed by far the worst.
Taurine
This product also contains 200 mg of taurine. This is an amino acid-like substance that naturally occurs mainly in meat, fish, and shellfish. It has a direct synergistic effect with magnesium because it promotes the absorption of this mineral in the cells (magnesium is mainly active intracellularly).
Function of magnesium in the body
The body contains about 21 to 28 grams of magnesium. Less than 1% circulates in the blood, about 20% is in the muscles, 20% in other soft tissues and liver, and about 60% is embedded in the bones and teeth. Magnesium is therefore good for the muscles and important for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Furthermore, it is involved in more than 300 enzymatic processes. For example, magnesium is an important co-factor for enzymes involved in protein synthesis (the process by which proteins are made based on DNA). And it also helps to maintain a good electrolyte balance because it is a co-factor for many enzymes involved in maintaining an electrical potential across the cell membrane. (Cells – especially nerve and muscle cells – use the electrical charge of electrolytes to conduct electrical impulses to and from other cells, such as nerve impulses or muscle contractions.) In this way, magnesium is involved in nerve conduction and muscle contraction, and is therefore important for muscle function, including the heart muscle. Additionally, inadequate magnesium intake can lead to fatigue. Magnesium can help to become fit again in this case. It helps to release energy from fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, thus supporting energy levels. It is also important for brain and nerve functions, which are decisive for aspects such as concentration, memory, and mood. And it contributes to normal cell division and the production of cells and tissues.

Is it 100 mg per tablet? Since I also take a vegan multi with 70mg of magnesium, I don't want to take too much. I understood 300 mg per day.
The safe upper limit is considered to be between 300 and 400 milligrams of elemental magnesium per day. However, magnesium requirements can vary greatly and depend on factors such as age, gender, pregnancy, sports, occupation, dietary habits, etc. It can even go up to 600-700 mg per day.
For you, it is safe to use this Magnesium Bisglycinate of 100 mg in combination with your multi.
What exactly is meant by taking on an empty stomach? Spread throughout the day surely means that you've eaten a few hours beforehand?
That's correct, taking on an empty stomach means at least 1/2 hour to 1 hour before a meal and up to 1 hour after a meal.
I can only take these pills with food, not with drink. Unless I break the tablet into smaller pieces first. But is that allowed with these?
You are allowed to break or crush these tablets and then take them with some water or food.
Is the taurine in this product of plant-based origin?
No, the taurine is synthetically produced but nature-identical.
Hi, can I use these pills during pregnancy? Thank you very much!
This supplement cannot be used during pregnancy due to the lack of safety data regarding the use of taurine during pregnancy.
