More about this product
Creatine is one of the most popular, well-researched, and effective nutrients for athletes. However, it is much less known that creatine can also lead to increased muscle strength in individuals over 55 years, in combination with muscle-strengthening exercises. Maintaining good muscle strength is one of the key focuses for healthy ageing. And it's great that creatine can contribute to this, on top of regularly doing your exercises, which is, of course, the most important thing. The beneficial effect is achieved with a daily intake of at least 3 grams of creatine.
Due to the widespread use of creatine, there are various suppliers of creatine supplements. Unfortunately, the quality of the creatine offered is not always high. Vitals has therefore chosen Creavitalis®, highly pure creatine monohydrate from the German producer Alzchem. Creavitalis® is the micronised (refined) version of their well-known and acclaimed Creapure®. Alzchem's creatines are the most used in scientific research because their quality and purity are unparalleled.
EFFECTS OF CREATINE
Creatine is a molecule that naturally occurs in all vertebrates. The name creatine is derived from the Greek word ‘kreas’ meaning meat. Creatine plays a key role in the cell's energy metabolism. It is primarily found in tissues that consume a lot of energy, such as skeletal muscles. Creatine is a semi-essential nutrient. The body can produce creatine in the kidneys and liver from the amino acids arginine, glycine, and methionine, but this is not always sufficient to meet the needs. Hence, it is also necessary to obtain some creatine from the diet. Creatine in food is always of animal origin, particularly found in meat, fish, and poultry. People who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet generally have a lower intake of this nutrient. Creatine in supplements is not derived from animal sources and is therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Creatine can be converted into creatine phosphate (CP) in the muscle cells under the influence of the enzyme creatine kinase. The phosphate group can then be attached to ADP (adenosine diphosphate), forming ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the primary energy carrier in our cells. Taking extra creatine to contribute to energy delivery via CP is particularly interesting for short and high-intensity efforts, such as strength training and sprint training.
In addition to contributing to physical performance by supporting energy metabolism, creatine as a supplement also plays a role in enhancing the effect of resistance exercises on muscle strength. Maintaining muscle strength is particularly important for individuals aged 55 and above. Therefore, it is very wise to perform muscle-strengthening exercises several times a week.
