The forms ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) are respectively found in mushrooms and animal-derived foods. Mushrooms and animals produce vitamin D in the same way as humans, under the influence of UV radiation (sunlight). The form you consume from animal products (vitamin D3) is exactly the same vitamin D that our human skin produces, and therefore the most biologically available form for our human digestive system.
