Dear….. I am interested in a good vit B12 supplement and have had good experiences with Vitakruid, so I first look into their range. Imagine my surprise when I found sweeteners in it. This is not exactly an ingredient I associate with a healthy lifestyle. Why have these sweeteners been added and how 'bad' are they? Thanks in advance, Corine
On 19 august 2021 by Customer serviceXylitol is a sugar alcohol used as a substitute for sugar and appears as (E967). It is a natural sweetener found in the fibres of many types of vegetables and fruits and is artificially produced from xylose or wood sugar. Xylose or wood sugar can be found in the tissue of various plants, corn cobs, vegetables, and fruits such as cauliflower, raspberries, and strawberries.
There is sometimes the idea that xylitol is dangerous. This is related to the intake of the product. You should not consume more than 35 grams per day because it can cause digestive issues. The amount in the B12 lozenge is so low that it has little impact.
The reason Vitakruid includes xylitol in very small amounts in the B12 lozenge is because B vitamins often have a very unpleasant taste, which can decrease adherence to the therapy of taking this supplement.
