Is L Carnitine 500 harmful for people with diabetes and also for those with gout?

The warning on the NOW product is valid in the sense that it is better not to self-medicate in such cases (and this applies to all carnitine supplements, regardless of the brand). However, as it stands, it is somewhat unclear and unnecessarily alarming. L-carnitine is not dangerous for individuals with kidney conditions. However, consulting with the treating physician is advisable.
