Therefore, 100 mg of elemental magnesium from magnesium malate or 100 mg of elemental magnesium from citrate does not make a difference in terms of absorption. However, the bioavailability (the amount of magnesium that ultimately reaches the bloodstream and target organs) for magnesium malate is likely slightly higher. In other words, the absorption of both forms is good, but the effectiveness of magnesium malate is ultimately a bit higher.
