Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric, the extract from the root of Curcuma longa. There is a long tradition of using curcumin. Turmeric is a part of Indian cuisine as an ingredient in curry, a traditional flavour enhancer. Since 1900 BC, turmeric has been used and is perhaps one of the most utilised phytonutrients. It is often employed to support digestion and liver function. Additionally, it can contribute to maintaining flexible joints and a balanced immune response. Finally, it is beneficial for heart and blood vessels and supports the functioning of the nervous system.

A well-known issue with standard curcumin preparations is the low bioavailability. In recent years, research on curcumin has primarily focused on improving bioavailability. A major breakthrough has recently been achieved in this area. Verdure Sciences in the United States, in collaboration with leading scientists from the renowned University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has developed an elegant method to deliver curcumin in its biologically active form to the target location, without being prematurely converted into inactive metabolites in the liver and intestines (as happens with most other curcumin supplements). They have named this patented ingredient Longvida®, which utilises SLCP™ technology (from which our product derives its name).

SLCP Technology
The principle is based on packaging the curcumin in a lipid-like particle (Solid Lipid Curcumin Particle, abbreviated SLCP) composed of specially selected fats naturally found in our diet. In the intestine, this particle is absorbed as a whole and transported with other dietary fats in chylomicrons via the lymphatic system. This initially bypasses the liver, where the majority of curcumin inactivation usually occurs. Biologically active curcumin will then circulate in the bloodstream and reach various destinations.

Curcumin SLCP 65 times better absorption
Comparative studies have shown that curcumin-SLCP is at least 65 times more absorbable than standard curcumin products. Additionally, the half-life of this unique product is significantly longer. This indicates that curcumin-SLCP can suffice with a (much) lower daily dosage. This obviously has many advantages for user-friendliness. Not everyone can tolerate high doses of curcumin well, and it is ultimately easier to only have to think about taking a supplement once a day.

Combining with pepper extract (piperine) is only beneficial when taking regular turmeric dry extract (the ground, dried root).

With the special SLCP Curcumin extract, the turmeric has been processed in such a way that it is excellently absorbed, and the addition of pepper extract does not provide any added value.

An SLCP extract without piperine, like this formula from Vitals, is better than a regular dry extract with piperine.

Yes, turmeric can also be given to dogs. If the dog weighs between 20 to 50 kg, you can use the recommended dosage for adults. If the dog weighs less than 20 kg, then give half the dosage (for example, one capsule every other day). It doesn't matter if it's a tiny bit more or less. In cases of serious issues, it is better to give a bit more than too little.

Why does this capsule not contain black pepper regarding the absorption of curcumin?

For the newer generation of turmeric extracts, namely SLCP and NovaSOL extracts, the addition of black pepper extract provides no added value, as these fat-soluble extracts can already be absorbed extremely well in the intestines. Adding black pepper extract would unnecessarily increase the cost of the product.
