I've been using Vitakruid's Betaine HCL (with pepsin) for quite some time now. It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out how much you need, but I've gone from 3 tablets to 2 tablets, and occasionally I even take just 1 tablet a day. No more complaints. Wonderful!
Superior source of 650 mg betaine per tablet
Betaine hydrochloride (HCL) is the hydrochloride salt form of the enzyme betaine. Typically, the stomach produces hydrochloric acid itself as soon as fats or carbohydrates reach the stomach. Factors such as overconsumption of carbohydrates and fats, stress, and ageing reduce the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Ultimate synergistic formula
Supplementation with betaine HCL and pepsin acts as an extraordinarily powerful synergistic formula. A particularly close-knit team that enhances each other's effects. The body does not produce pepsin directly as an active enzyme. The parietal cells in the stomach produce pepsinogen, the precursor to pepsin. The hydrochloric acid (betaine HCL) in the stomach cavity then transforms pepsinogen into the active form pepsin. Only now can pepsin perform its function within our body. A lot of pepsinogen is lost in the conversion to pepsin. It is therefore extremely efficient to supplement the active forms of pepsin and betaine.
Addition of pepsin with high enzyme activity

I am lacking bile salts as my gallbladder was removed 45 years ago. I constantly suffer from stomach issues and terribly sticky stools. What can help with this? Kind regards, Agnes

My doctor suggests it might be due to acid reflux at night, which flows back and causes symptoms during the day. However, in your case, since you don't experience symptoms during or after meals, but rather at rest, it is less clear whether this supplement would be the right solution for you. Your symptoms seem to be caused by reflux, which is the backflow of stomach acid into the oesophagus, often associated with lying down or sleeping.
While Betaine HCL & Pepsin may help improve digestion, it is not a specific remedy for reflux.

I recently purchased this product and the instructions mention taking 1 to 3 tablets with a meal. However, it's not entirely clear to me what this means. Is it 1 to 3 tablets spread over multiple meals, or should you take this amount with each meal, or is it 1 to 3 tablets with one meal per day? If it's the latter, which meal is preferred?
