Bio-Omega 3&6 provides 360 mg of borage oil, of which 80 mg is gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). It also contains 140 mg of fish oil and a small amount of arachidonic acid per capsule. Both the GLA and the omega-3 fatty acids in Bio-Omega 3&6 are in the form of free fatty acids, which can be well absorbed by the body.
Omega-6 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids. The omega-3 fatty acids in Bio-Omega 3&6 are absorbed 50% better due to their free fatty acid form compared to regular omega-3 fish oil in triglyceride form. The GLA is derived from borage oil with a high content (22%) of the omega-6 fatty acid GLA.

The seeds of borage (Borago officinalis) naturally contain a lot of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid. This fatty acid is not called 'essential' because healthy adults can produce it in their own bodies. This mainly involves the conversion of linoleic acid, a component of many vegetable oils.
The best sources of GLA do not appear in our daily diet. Borage (Borago officinalis) contains up to 20% GLA. The oil from blackcurrant seeds contains 15-17%, and evening primrose takes third place with 8-10% GLA. Hemp oil contains small amounts of the substance.

Usually, fatty acids are in the form of triglycerides, which must first be digested and broken down into 'free' fatty acids in the digestive tract before they can be absorbed by the body. This is done with the help of the digestive enzyme lipase.
