Being 78, this seemed better to me than the 50+ option.
I have been using it for 4 weeks now, but I notice little difference in IBS symptoms. I am also following FODMAP.

The recommended dosage is 1 capsule per day. The maximum dosage is 3 capsules per day, unless otherwise advised. Do not exceed the maximum daily dosage. Add the contents of the capsule(s) to lukewarm water or skimmed milk, yoghurt drink, lemonade (syrup) at room temperature, stir, and preferably drink on an empty stomach. Not suitable for children up to and including 3 years old. Store dry and at room temperature, out of reach of children. A dietary supplement cannot replace a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
At what time of the day?
It is preferable to take probiotics on an empty stomach, for example just before bedtime, but another time of the day is also fine. When the stomach is empty, the probiotic bacteria remain in the stomach for a shorter time and digestive juices have not yet been produced. These juices are naturally useful for digestion, but they reduce the survival chances of the bacteria in the product. Wait half an hour after taking the supplement before eating, otherwise these juices will still be activated. If you can't manage to take the probiotics on an empty stomach, take them at any other random time.
Why dissolve?
The Orthiflor products in powder form and the powder from the capsules should preferably be dissolved and stirred in hand-warm liquid (see above) before taking them. The billions of bacteria in the capsules, loose powder, or sachets are put into a sort of 'sleep mode' during production so they can be stored for a longer time and need liquid to come back to life. If they were to end up directly in the stomach acid in their 'sleep mode', a large portion of the bacteria would not survive. The bacteria also do not like cold liquid. Hand-warm liquid is preferred. If you choose convenience and take probiotics in chewable tablets, your saliva provides the necessary moisture.

The description states that it's better to open the capsules of Orthiflor Original for improved processing/absorption. However, is it possible to simply swallow the capsules whole with water? I notice that I feel nauseous when I open them and take them with water or yoghurt. The main question is whether it's harmful to swallow them whole, as I understand that the effectiveness is likely not diminished.

Can you continue taking the original product long-term (daily)? And what would the dosage be? Can you also combine it with, for example, the Plus sachets twice a week? Is this worthwhile?

Orthiflor Original can be combined with Orthiflor Plus, but the latter product is more effective when used as a course. So instead of taking a sachet twice a week, it should be taken intensively for 10 days at 1-2 sachets per day.
