Vitamin E naturally occurs in foods such as sunflower oil, grain products, nuts and seeds, and fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin E is also added to other foods such as low-fat spreads and margarine and is, of course, available as a dietary supplement.
"Vitamin E" is the collective name for a group of fat-soluble compounds with distinctive antioxidant activities.
Naturally occurring vitamin E exists in eight chemical forms (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol) with varying levels of biological activity. Alpha-tocopherol is the only form recognised by the body, allowing it to be functional for the body.
