Algae are microscopic plants, positioned right at the bottom of the food chain, and are the primary source of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. Algae produce Omega 3 fatty acids themselves and are the food for fatty fish species like herring and sardines, which are thus rich in Omega 3.
Vegan Algal Oil is an Omega 3 supplement from sustainably cultivated algae. The fermentation process of the algae takes place in a closed pure environment. This ensures the algal oil is free from contamination.

Highly absorbable form
These algal oil capsules contain per capsule 150 mg EPA & 100 mg DHA in their natural triglyceride form. This means the fatty acid chains remain intact, unlike some algal oils that are chemically converted to ethyl esters. This process, which increases the concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, removes the fatty acids from their original triglyceride form and binds them to ethanol, creating ethyl esters.
Ethyl esters may be less efficiently absorbed and oxidise faster than the natural triglyceride form.

High EPA content
EPA and DHA are two long-chain fatty acids found only in fish oil and algal oil. Most algae primarily produce DHA and only a little EPA. To achieve a higher EPA content in algal oil, specific algae strains are used that naturally produce more EPA. This is done without the use of concentration processes or chemical conversions, allowing the oil to naturally retain its stable triglyceride form. The entire process, from cultivation to oil, is solvent-free, non-GMO, allergen-free, and 100% plant-based.
Thanks to the higher EPA content, this Algal Oil is compositionally closer to fish oil than our other algal oil variants. This makes it the ideal choice for those wanting to experience the benefits of omega-3 but prefer a plant-based option.

TOTOX value of Algal Oil
The TOTOX value (total oxidation value) indicates the degree of fatty acid oxidation. This value is not related to spoilage but to the age of the oil. As the oil ages, the TOTOX value increases. The European guideline is set at a maximum TOTOX value of 26. This algal oil has a TOTOX value of <6.
Reactions to the TOTOX value can vary from person to person: some people experience no issues with a high TOTOX value, while others may experience burping at a low TOTOX value.

Some brands use chemicals to lower and maintain the TOTOX value of liquid algal or fish oils. We do not include these chemicals in our algal oil.
