Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is a mushroom that has been used in Asia for more than 2,000 years for its positive effects on health. Reishi is one of the best-known and most widely used medicinal mushrooms. Ganoderma lucidum is the Latin name and means ‘shiny skin’. In China, this mushroom is also known as “the Herb of Spiritual Power”. Reishi grows as a parasite on deciduous trees, but can also grow on dead tree trunks. Reishi is red in colour and, due to its sheen, it looks as though it has a layer of varnish over it.
