I was curious about what MGO stood for
MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a compound naturally found in Manuka honey, responsible for its unique properties. MGO is formed in the honey from DHA, an ingredient present in Manuka nectar that acts as a precursor to MGO. The ageing of the honey affects the MGO content; the older the honey, the more DHA is converted into MGO, thus increasing the percentage of methylglyoxal. This process is very precise and requires expertise and precision to produce high-quality Manuka honey. This is why Manuka honey is always tested for its MGO content and certified. This way, consumers know exactly what quality of honey they are purchasing. There is Manuka Honey with MGO 100+, MGO 250+, and MGO 400+. The higher the methylglyoxal content, the more expensive the product.
Can you use manuka honey 1000 MGO during pregnancy for something like a sore throat? A teaspoon a day? What is your advice? Thank you in advance.
Manuka honey is safe to consume during pregnancy. A teaspoon a day is a generally accepted dosage for Manuka honey.
