About the plant
The sweet orange is a small, evergreen tree with white, fragrant flowers and glossy leaves. The tree grows up to 6 metres tall and originally hails from China. Today, this orange is cultivated around the Mediterranean and in North America (Florida). The tree is smaller than the bitter orange (C. aurantium var. amara), from which neroli and petitgrain are distilled.

About the oil
Sweet orange is an essential oil obtained through cold pressing of the ripe fruit peel. The yield of essential oil is about 0.5%, meaning that 200 kg of ripe peels are needed for 1 litre of oil. The colour of this oil ranges from yellow to orange, depending on the variety and place of origin. The scent of sweet orange is highly recognisable: lively, fruity fresh with a sweet undertone. The perfume industry frequently uses orange in fruity perfumes, where the oil is characterised as a top note.

Composition
Citrus sinensis essential oil

Evaporation
Through evaporation, orange spreads a sweet and fruity scent. This oil brings sunshine into your home, creating a cosy atmosphere. This is why it is also known as the sun king. Orange can be used pure in the aroma diffuser, but like all other citrus oils, it is also very suitable for blending. Try a combination of orange with lavender, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, ylang ylang, or pines.

The following combinations are delightful in a diffuser! You can also make your own skin oil or bath oil by mixing 5 drops of essential oil in 20 ml of plant oil or bath oil.

* 3 drops of orange and 2 drops of cedar atlas
* 1 drop of frankincense, 1 drop of myrrh, 3 drops of orange
* 2 drops of ginger and 3 drops of orange
* 2 drops of cedarwood, 2 drops of orange and 1 drop of patchouli
* 2 drops of benzoin and 3 drops of orange

In the ultrasonic diffuser: the nose determines the number of drops, usually between 5 and 20 drops on the water in the diffuser.  
In the Aroma Inhaler: drip 20 drops on the cotton stick.
On the fragrance stone: Use 6 to 10 drops for use of the stone in the toilet, wardrobe, or on the bedside table.  
Steaming: a maximum of 1 - 5 drops of essential oil  
 
On the skin
In skincare, sweet orange can be used on oily skin and mature skin. Orange supports the skin's regenerative ability. Orange is also good for use on red or chapped skin.

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances and therefore never used pure on the skin. For safe use, mix an essential oil with a fatty plant oil as a base. For a relaxing massage oil, use 10-15 drops of essential oil in 100ml of base oil. You can use the Aromassage Basic for this, or choose a fatty plant oil of your choice.
 
In the bath
One of the most pleasant uses of oils is in a bath. When you drip the essential oil into the water, you will see the essential oil float on top of the water. The oil and water do not mix with each other. If the oil remains on the water, the skin comes into direct contact with the oil and this can cause skin irritation. It is therefore important to use the oil in a diluted form in the bath water. For this, you need a so-called emulsifier, which can bind oil and water together. Neutral bath foam or oil is a good emulsifier.  For safe use of essential oils in the bath, use a maximum of 10 drops of essential oil in 10 ml of bath oil or hydrophilic oil for a full bath. Orange is often used as a sunny oil in the winter. Especially after long cold days. With orange, you really create a moment for yourself to recharge and take on new challenges.

Store orange oil in the fridge for longer shelf life.
Do not use aged orange oil on the skin.
Do not use orange oil on sensitive or damaged skin.
Avoid the sun for at least 12 hours after using orange oil on the skin.
