The baobab, or monkey bread tree, is one of the most renowned and distinctive trees in Africa. It holds the title of the thickest tree globally (with a circumference exceeding 10 metres) and can sometimes be wider than it is tall. The exquisite cream-white flowers, which bloom only at night, are large and hang individually from a flower stalk; they are adapted for pollination by nectar-drinking bats. Following the flowering phase, the tree produces oval fruits containing sour, edible pulp and numerous seeds. These fruits are highly nutritious, packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and minerals.
The oil is extracted through cold pressing of the seeds from ripe fruits. Once ripe, the fruits fall to the ground and are collected by the local population. Cold pressing is the optimal method to preserve all the active ingredients in the oil, making it highly suitable for general skincare. The oil is golden yellow in colour, boasts a rich and silky texture, a pleasant aroma, and a mild nutty flavour.

Baobab oil can be applied purely as a skin and massage oil. Baobab softens the skin, including facial skin. It is quickly and almost entirely absorbed by the skin, yet leaves an invisible thin layer on the surface, preventing any dryness or tightness. However, the skin does not feel greasy. Baobab gives the skin a lovely sheen and acts as a natural moisturiser that keeps the skin supple, especially when applied to damp skin. Baobab is particularly beneficial for dry, itchy, and damaged skin, alleviating symptoms of conditions like dry eczema and sunburn. Daily use of the oil is recommended. Baobab is also highly effective in treating stretch marks (striae) and scars. Its vitamin E content helps prevent skin damage from free radicals.
Tip! Baobab is excellent for chapped lips. Applying a small amount can quickly remedy this.
