In fact, there is no significant delay in absorption for tablets containing 1000 mg of vitamin C. Most manufacturers therefore no longer mention "slow release" on the packaging. The Vitamin C 1000 mg contains some added bioflavonoids that may slightly delay absorption, but we are talking about at most one or two minutes, and even that is uncertain. The other excipients also do not have the ability to delay the absorption of as much as 1000 mg of vitamin C. Virtually all of the vitamin C is released in the stomach and small intestine, where absorption can begin immediately.

Vitamin C 1000 mg bioflavonoids can also be used during pregnancy, in combination with a pregnancy multivitamin, but there is limited information regarding the effects of high dosages (more than 1000 mg per day). High doses of vitamin C can influence the levels of progesterone in the body, and progesterone plays a crucial role during pregnancy, especially in the first few weeks. Therefore, it is advisable to stick to 1 tablet at the beginning of the pregnancy, in conjunction with the 200 to 300 mg of vitamin C from the pregnancy multivitamin.

3000 mg of vitamin C is a fairly average dose. It is not particularly high, but certainly not low either. It is difficult to determine whether 3000 mg has a significant impact on progesterone levels. This effect may only occur at doses of 5000 to 10,000 mg per day. However, it is better to err on the side of caution by sticking to 1 tablet during the first trimester of pregnancy. For the remainder of the pregnancy, a dosage of 3000 to 3500 mg of vitamin C per day poses no problem.
