It is an evergreen tree, sometimes up to 8 metres tall, with thick branches starting from the ground. The fragrant resin beads from the bark after it is damaged to protect itself. The African or Arabian incense or Frankincense comes from the Boswellia carterii. Incense essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the resin of the tree. It has a light yellow or greenish colour and a spicy, resinous scent.

Incense rejuvenates the skin and works very well against wrinkles. Incense oil has the following properties when applied physically: purifying, astringent, skin-restoring, illuminating, soothing. Incense is calming and reassuring, reduces tension and stress, and improves mood. This oil is ideal for diffusing during meditation.
