The Bergamot tree is a cross between the bitter Orange and Lemon, belonging to the Rutaceae family. The fruits resemble miniature oranges. Bergamot oil is extracted by cold pressing the outer parts of the peel of the unripe fruit. The colour is green-orange but can change to a chestnut-olive hue as it ages, and it has a distinctive fruity, warmly floral, fresh, and lively scent.
Bergamot oil has, among other things, purifying and antiseptic properties. It is very beneficial for skin issues and the respiratory and urinary tracts. It has both relaxing and uplifting effects.
