Winter Sports Essentials for Staying Healthy Inside and Out
For many people, winter sports are the highlight of the winter season. And for good reason: a week with friends or family enjoying the sun, snow, skiing, and schnitzels 😉. Whether your week involves a terrace break after every run or you aim to cover as many kilometres as possible, a week of skiing can take a toll on your body. You often move more than usual, eat differently, and face sometimes harsh weather conditions. How can you best take care of yourself before, during, and after a day on the slopes? In this blog, we share our winter sports essentials.
Maintain Your Vitamin Levels
There's a good chance that during a winter sports holiday, you'll eat slightly differently, and often less healthily, than usual. To ensure you still get enough vitamins, there are a few things you can do. A healthy foundation is essential, so try to add extra vegetables or fruit where possible. For instance, choose a piece of fruit at breakfast or add an extra side salad at lunch. In addition to these small adjustments, certain dietary supplements can also support you. Consider a good multivitamin to prevent deficiencies and magnesium to support muscle recovery. Vitamin C and Astaxanthin (antioxidants C and E) are also beneficial additions. These products help protect your skin from oxidative damage caused by air pollution and UV radiation.
Hydrate Your Skin
Your skin endures a lot with the cold temperatures. Ensure you give your skin some extra love with natural skincare products. Consider a good hydrating day and night cream or a serum for intensive care. This ensures you hit the slopes with well-hydrated skin, ready to withstand extreme weather conditions. On the slopes, it's crucial to use good sun protection, as the white snow reflects sunlight, causing you to burn more quickly than you might expect. But don't be fooled, even if the sun isn't shining, you can still get sunburnt. Whatever the weather forecast, make sure you apply SPF generously and ideally reapply every two hours for optimal protection.
Tip! Don't forget your lips. The cold, dry air, and sun can quickly lead to dry lips with painful cracks. Keep them well-hydrated and protected, for example, by using this hydrating balm before bed to help your lips recover.
Bring on the winter sports!
