Saffron, derived from the styles and stigmas of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), is one of the oldest known and most precious spices. For over 4000 years, it has been used in various world cuisines for its distinctive taste and colour. Additionally, it has traditionally been applied for its health benefits. Quality
Due to its preciousness, saffron is often referred to as 'red gold'. Unfortunately, the high raw material price also means that inferior quality saffron is offered on the market. The origin, production od, and purity of saffron are crucial for its quality and efficacy.

Saffron-LCS (which stands for Lepticrosalides®, see further on) contains the high-quality extract Affron®. Both the cultivation of the untreated saffron and the production of the saffron extract take place at producer Pharmactive in Spain. Since the entire production chain is managed in-house, ideal growing conditions can be ensured, and quality can be guaranteed. Moreover, the producer has DNA tests conducted by an external party on their saffron as additional confirmation that Affron® is made from 100% genuine saffron.

Patented extraction od and composition
From the pure raw material, an extract is obtained through a specially developed extraction od, standardised to 3.5% Lepticrosalides®, a patented complex of the main active substances in saffron (such as safranal, crocin, and picrocrocin). A proper analysis od is of great importance to accurately measure the active substances in a saffron extract and to avoid a distorted picture. It is quite unique in the saffron world that the HPLC analysis od (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) is used for Affron®.

Scientific substantiation
Producer Pharmactive places great importance on the scientific substantiation of its products. Affron® with 3.5% Lepticrosalides® is therefore used in scientific research, such as in a recent study on healthy adults where the effect of supplementation with Affron® on mood was measured. In many cases, a daily dosage of 28 mg Affron® is already sufficient for a positive effect on mood.
