Quercetin is one of the most important and well-researched bioflavonoids. It naturally occurs in various foods, including apples, berries, cabbage, and onions. Quercetin belongs to the subgroup of flavonols, which help protect plants from damage by insects or microorganisms. In food, quercetin is present in glycoside form (bound to a sugar). Storing at higher temperatures, cooking, or peeling can partially reduce quercetin content. Therefore, a dietary supplement with quercetin may be beneficial to increase daily intake. Like other bioflavonoids, quercetin is known for its poor absorption in the body due to its low solubility in water (and thus in watery digestive juices). Research shows that quercetin in a homogeneous mixture with phosphatidylcholine (in so-called phytosomal form) has up to 20 times better absorption and bioavailability than pure quercetin.

Enhanced absorption through Phytosome® technology
Quercetin-PS contains quercetin from a natural source. It is extracted from the flowers of the pagoda tree (Sophora japonica). The absorption and bioavailability of quercetin in Quercetin-PS is significantly improved by using the patented Phytosome® technology from the Italian producer Indena. The term Phytosome (or phytosome) comes from the Greek word phuton (plant) and soma (body). During the patented production process, the natural clumping of specific, poorly absorbable phytonutrients (such as quercetin) is limited, and these are mixed with phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine) from sunflower lecithin. The active substances are not encapsulated (as in liposomes), but a homogeneous mixture of small, well-absorbable particles is formed. Bioflavonoids (such as quercetin) have a natural affinity for phospholipids. The result is the formation of phytosomes, where the bioflavonoids adhere to the phospholipids. In this way, they are absorbed extra well. Cell membranes (such as those of cells in the small intestine) also consist of a phospholipid bilayer, allowing these phytosomes to pass through the intestinal wall excellently and the active ingredients to be well absorbed into the circulation. Studies have shown that the absorption and bioavailability of quercetin is improved 10-20 times by this Phytosome® technology.
Different from liposome technology
In a liposome, the active substance is located in the centre of a sphere with a double layer of phospholipids. In Phytosome® technology, it is truly a homogeneous mixture and the active substance is not encapsulated. This means you need much fewer phospholipids than with liposomes.

Ingredients
Vegetarian capsule (pullulan, from fermented cassava starch), quercetin extract, emulsifier (sunflower lecithin), anti-caking agents (maltodextrin, silicon dioxide), rice concentrate (Oryza sativa).
Take 1-2 capsules per day with a meal and water. Adhere to the recommended dosage. Quercetin-PS can be very effectively used together with a zinc supplement.
