Lion’s Mane, also known as Hericium erinaceus or the hedgehog mushroom, is a striking mushroom that naturally occurs mainly in East Asia. Here, the mushroom has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. Lion’s Mane owes its name to its distinctive appearance: long, white spines reminiscent of a lion’s mane – or, according to the Dutch name, an old-fashioned wig.
Lion’s Mane is a parasitic fungus that grows on the bark of old trees. It feeds on dying wood and slowly forms its characteristic fruiting bodies on the bark of its host.
