The richest natural source of astaxanthin is the Haematococcus pluvialis, which is also known as the blood rain algae due to its deep red colour. Animals that consume these algae acquire a distinctive pink-red hue. Think of salmon, lobster, crab, trout, and shrimp. Some birds, such as flamingos, also ingest this pigment.

Algae produce astaxanthin to protect themselves from stressful conditions such as drought and sunlight in summer. This enables the algae to protect their DNA, allowing them to grow again under better conditions.
Moreover, it is known that astaxanthin helps salmon swim up to 3,000 kilometres against the current. In birds, high concentrations of astaxanthin are found in the eyes.

Thanks to the stable climate, this region enjoys abundant sunlight, clean air, and is free from pollutants all year round. The algae cultivation in this remote desert location does not displace crops.
Fully sustainable production process
The entire production is powered by solar energy. Furthermore, underground seawater is used during the production process, eliminating the need for drinking water. This water is then 80% recycled. The production process of AstaPure® is therefore fully sustainable.
Green and red phase
The production occurs in two phases that mimic the accumulation of astaxanthin in nature. In the green phase, the algae enjoy optimal natural growth conditions, allowing them to grow maximally. In the red phase, the algae are exposed to harsh conditions, causing them to produce astaxanthin as a defence mechanism.
Highest purity of astaxanthin
AstaPure® is produced from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis, which contains the most concentrated natural form of astaxanthin. Combined with production at the remote location in the Arava desert, this ensures the highest purity of astaxanthin, namely 95% of the total carotenoids extracted from the algae.
NAXA® & USDA® certified
Our Astaxanthin is free from plastics, environmental pollutants, synthetic preservatives, and heavy metals. Moreover, with the use of CO2 extraction technology, no solvent is required during the production process. Our Astaxanthin is therefore NAXA® & USDA® certified.

Is there soya in your astaxanthin? I normally avoid soya; is there a lot in it?
On 23 may 2023 by Customer serviceThere is no soya in our Astaxanthin, but there is in this one from Vitakruid. The Vitamin E in the product is derived from soya. Since soya is an allergen, it must be listed on the packaging. Vitakruid has stated that unfortunately, they cannot specify how much soya is in the product, as this information is not provided elsewhere. Vitamin E is listed last in the ingredients, which means it is present in the smallest amount. The remaining soya content is likely negligible, but they cannot guarantee this.
