Herbal preparation

Noni (Morinda citrifolia) is a plant from the coffee family (Rubiaceae).
 
It is a shrub or an evergreen tree up to 6 m tall with deeply branched, square branches.
The fruits, up to 15 cm large, are oval and usually not uniformly developed.
 
The bark and roots contain a red dye, and heated or wilted leaves are used for external applications.
 
The noni is also widely used as an ornamental plant and is cultivated worldwide in tropical regions.

This plant originally hails from Southeast Asia and was carried to the Polynesian islands by emigrants from that area around the first century AD.
