Boldo is a slow-growing evergreen tree that produces fruit. 
The fragrant flowers are either male or female, with only one gender per plant; therefore, male and female plants must be grown together for reproduction.
Boldo is found in the Andes regions of Chile and Peru, and is also native to parts of Morocco. 
According to legend, the benefits of the plant were discovered by chance by a shepherd. The leaves are used in the kitchen as a herb, and also to impart a pleasant scent in the linen cupboard.
Boldo is cultivated in Italy, Brazil, and North Africa.
This is necessary to meet the enormous demand for its leaves (due to their specific properties) in European and Canadian markets.
