Orthiflor Pregnant is suitable for use during pregnancy. This probiotic has been specially formulated with three different bacterial strains for pregnant women, even if you are vegetarian. Orthiflor Pregnant is packaged in convenient pre-dosed sachets.

Composition per daily dose of 1 sachet (3 grams)
Bacterial preparation 3 x 109 cfu*
In approximately equal proportions:
- Bifidobacterium bifidum
- Bifidobacterium infantis
- Lactococcus lactis
Rice starch, maltodextrin, bacterial culture.
The recommended dosage for pregnant women is 1 sachet (3 grams) per day. Preferably take on an empty stomach. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Add the powder to a room temperature liquid, stir, let it stand for at least 15 minutes, and drink.
At what time of day?
It is preferable to take probiotics on an empty stomach, for example, just before going to bed, but another time of day is also fine. When the stomach is empty, the probiotic bacteria are present in the stomach for a shorter time and no digestive juices are yet being produced. These juices are, of course, useful for digestion, but they reduce the survival rate of the bacteria in the product. Wait half an hour after taking the supplement before eating, otherwise these juices will still be activated. If you can't manage to take the probiotics on an empty stomach, take them at any other random time.
Why dissolve?
The Orthiflor products in powder form and the powder from the sachets should preferably be dissolved first, stirred, and allowed to stand for 15 minutes in lukewarm liquid (see above) before consumption. The billions of bacteria in the capsules, loose powder, or sachets are put into a sort of 'sleep mode' during production so they can be stored for longer periods and need liquid to come back to life. If they were to enter the stomach acid directly in their 'sleep mode', a large portion of the bacteria would not survive. The bacteria also do not like cold liquid. Lukewarm liquid is preferred.

What is the difference between this and the basic/original? Are the latter not suitable or even unsafe for pregnant women? The price difference is enormous.

It's certainly not the case that you can't use the original. During pregnancy, they are specifically formulated which are also important for your future child.
I am pregnant, but I'm wondering if I can just take the Orthiflor Original and if it's safe. What are the advantages of this version for pregnancy compared to the Original? The price difference is enormous.

The foetus receives it through the womb and they have a different gut flora than older children and adults, as they are not yet consuming solid food. The Original can also be used.
Can I use Orthiflor Pregnant alongside antibiotics?
On 31 october 2025 by Customer serviceIt is important not to take Orthiflor Pregnant at the same time as antibiotics, but instead at least 2 hours before or after taking the antibiotics. This ensures that the probiotic bacteria are not killed by the antibiotics and have the best chance to establish themselves in your gut.
Always consult your doctor before using Orthiflor Pregnant in combination with antibiotics during pregnancy.
