Curcuma Longa 500 mg (BCM-95®) 

Nutrivian Curcuma Longa contains 500 mg per capsule of a patented form of curcuma longa extract, called BCM-95®. This extract boasts a remarkable 95% curcuminoids (including curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin) which are absorbed much more effectively than curcuminoids in standard curcuma longa extracts. Through a unique production process, the curcuminoids are bound to essential oils that significantly increase the absorption of the curcuminoids in the body. These essential oils are also derived from the root of the curcuma longa plant. Many other products contain non-natural additives to improve absorption. BCM-95® contains only curcuminoids and essential oils from the curcuma longa plant without any other additives. 

Curcuma powder vs BCM-95® 
The active substances in curcuma longa are curcuminoids. Unique to Nutrivian Curcuma Longa 500 mg is that it contains a much higher concentration of curcuminoids than curcuma powder available as a spice. Curcuma powder contains only 2% curcuminoids. BCM-95®, on the other hand, contains a staggering 95% curcuminoids. Additionally, the absorption of BCM-95® is superior compared to curcuma powder and all other curcuma supplements due to the binding to essential oils.

Choose curcuma extract without black pepper extract (piperine) and with essential oils
Because curcuminoids are very difficult to absorb in the body, several methods have been developed to increase their absorption. Adding black pepper extract (piperine) to dietary supplements is one of the most commonly used methods. Piperine blocks the liver's detoxification, preventing curcuminoids from being broken down by the liver. However, due to this effect on the liver, using piperine in combination with medications is not advisable. Piperine can also cause stomach and intestinal complaints such as nausea and diarrhoea in some individuals.
