The flowers distilled for the hydrosols of La Drôme come from organic farming or wild harvesting in pristine natural areas. The floral waters or hydrosols of La Drôme are obtained through a slow, prolonged steam distillation with spring water from fresh, usually organic, flowers and plants. The flowers or leaves are placed in a distillation flask. The rising steam causes the cells, rich in plant extracts, to burst open. The steam, laden with essential oils, then condenses in a Florentine flask under cooling with cold running water. The water becomes floral water, as it is enriched with the water-soluble components of the essential oil and fragrant elements. The floral water and the essential oil separate in the separation vessel due to a difference in density. The floral water produced in this artisanal manner is rich in aromatic components.
