Tips for Mature Skin
As you age, your skin ages with you. The skin becomes slightly looser, less elastic, and lines and wrinkles become visible. What can you do to keep your skin as supple, firm, and radiant as possible for as long as possible? In this blog, we share 5 tips to support your skin from the inside and out.
Tip 1: Ensure a Good Night's Sleep
Lack of sleep can increase the production of the stress hormone cortisol, which negatively affects collagen production. Collagen is a strong and elastic protein found throughout our body, providing firm and elastic skin. Getting enough quality sleep has many benefits, including for the skin. Improve your sleep quality by going to bed earlier, ensuring the bedroom is cool, and using blackout curtains.
Tip 2: Use the Right Skincare Products
You may already be accustomed to cleansing and caring for your face twice a day. It's important to use products that properly support your skin's needs. For example, choose the new Premier Cru line by Caudalie: a complete skincare line specially designed for ageing skin. This line is created with a patented revolutionary technology by Caudalie and Dr. David Sinclair. Another good option is the regeneration line by Dr Hauschka.
Tip 3: Support the Skin from Within
Optimal skincare, in our view, consists of two parts: good skincare products and good dietary supplements to support the skin from within. For mature skin, there are three products that can give your skin a boost. First, Resveratrol: an antioxidant that protects body cells against oxidative damage from UV radiation and air pollution, for example. This Skin Hair Nail supplement is like a multivitamin for your skin, hair, and nails. It contains, among other things, vitamins B2, B3, C, biotin, and zinc, which support the skin's healing ability. And last but not least: collagen. Our CollaCaps help keep the skin firm and make the skin of the face and body softer, smoother, and more supple. Tip: many skincare products now on the market contain collagen, but the skin is too thick to absorb collagen effectively. To experience the benefits of collagen, a supplement in powder or pill form is recommended.
Tip 4: Eat and Drink Well
An obvious tip, but no less important. A healthy and varied diet combined with sufficient water is the foundation for a healthy body and thus healthy skin. Research from the Erasmus Medical Centre (2018) also shows that certain foods can reduce the percentage of wrinkles in women. These include products containing Omega 9, Omega 3, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, lycopene, sulforaphane, isoflavones, and antioxidants. You can find these ingredients in walnuts, oily fish, sunflower seeds, broccoli, pomegranates, flaxseed, and olive oil.
Tip 5: Year-Round SPF
Using sun protection all year round may seem unnecessary in the Netherlands, but nothing could be further from the truth. Even when the sun isn't shining brightly, UV radiation is present, which is one of the biggest causes of premature skin ageing. Make sure a good SPF is part of your morning routine so you always leave the house protected. Choose, for example, SPF30 or SPF 50, or one of the other sun protection products from our range.
