The Best Vitamins for Boosting Immunity
Weather changes can significantly challenge your immune system, and the temperature variations over the past week have already caused some sniffles here and there. It's especially important, therefore, to ensure you get enough sleep, eat healthily, and exercise regularly. These are three crucial pillars for a well-functioning immune system. If you're looking for additional support, you can opt for basic supplementation such as:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
- Zinc
Vitamin C
Vitamin C supports the immune system and is therefore highly suitable to take (extra) on these days. An optimal dosage of vitamin C is between 1 and 3 grams per day. The most vitamin C can be found in: bell peppers, blackcurrants, Brussels sprouts, parsley, kale, kiwi, and strawberries. In addition, you can choose a vitamin C supplement such as the Vitamin C1000 from Vitaminstore to support your immunity.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D, like vitamin C, contributes to good immunity. Most vitamin D is obtained from sunlight, with only a small amount from foods such as oily fish. Given the limited sunshine hours in the Netherlands, frequent bad weather, and insufficient intake of oily fish, we often don't meet our quota. It's therefore especially important to take vitamin D daily, particularly if your immune system needs additional support. An optimal dose during summer is a minimum of 25 mcg of vitamin D per day, and during winter, a minimum of 50 mcg per day.
Zinc
Zinc also has a positive effect on the immune system and should not be left out. Zinc is most abundantly found in oysters, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds, and cocoa. If you notice your immunity could use some extra support during these days, you can opt for an additional 15 mg to 20 mg of zinc in the form of a supplement.
Selenium
Selenium contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, thyroid gland, and spermatogenesis. Moreover, it helps protect cells against oxidative damage and is beneficial for our nails and hair.
Have you fallen ill?
Have you caught a cold or the flu? Your immune system is working hard to eliminate the pathogens from your body. Alongside getting enough rest, eating a varied diet rich in fruits and vegetables helps your body naturally fight back. For extra support, a special formula like the Resistance Formula from Vitaminstore can be beneficial. The Resistance Formula contains, among other things, vitamin C and zinc, both of which contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system. This formula can be used for an extended period (for instance, throughout the autumn and winter) and can be combined with a multivitamin without any issues.
