Protection against dry hands!
Washing hands, washing hands, and washing hands again. We are doing this all day long at the moment. And often disinfecting afterwards with an alcohol-based sanitising gel. Of course, this is excellent for preventing the risk of infection! However, it can make your hands feel extremely dry or even damage your skin, making you more susceptible to viruses. What is the best way to counter this?
A dry skin is susceptible to bacteria and viruses
One of the skin's functions is to protect the body against bacteria and fungi. This protection is compromised by soap, water, and disinfectants because they strip the skin of its oils. A less oily skin leads to a dehydrated skin, causing itchiness, redness, or even flakes, cracks, and fissures. This is not only unpleasant, but such skin is also more susceptible to infections with viruses and other microorganisms.
Apply, apply, and apply again
Regularly applying a nourishing and caring cream to your hands is the solution. It is best to do this every time after washing your hands. Try to make it a routine: wash hands thoroughly, dry well, and then apply a nourishing hand cream. This is important because, as the RIVM also states: ‘An intact skin is the first line of defence.’
Application tip!
Before going to bed, apply an extra thick layer of nourishing hand cream. This can then fully absorb into your skin overnight. This way, your hands have the opportunity to recover while you sleep.
