Holiday? Don't forget these supplements
A snack here, a glass of wine there; when you're on holiday, you often eat and drink differently than at home. Travelling to Asia? Your stomach might need some time to adjust to the spicy food, or how about the rich tapas in Spain? Drinking tap water isn't safe in every country. However, you might still consume some contaminated water, for instance, through ice cubes in drinks or vegetables and fruit washed with tap water.
3 Supplements for Travelling
Probiotics
Probiotics are often recommended for travel. Pay attention to the following points: which bacterial strains are included and are they scientifically substantiated? Choose a form that is easy to take with you on your trip, such as capsules. Follow the instructions on the label.
Multivitamins
While on holiday, we often aren't as strict with ourselves and may eat less healthily. Want to support your diet while travelling? Bring a multivitamin to supplement your nutrition.
Fibre
As Dutch people, we often consume a lot of fibre by eating wholegrain bread. Fibre is also found in fruits and vegetables. On holiday, you might eat differently, which could mean less fibre intake. Ensure you still get enough fibre while on holiday. You can do this by taking psyllium husk with you; a natural source of soluble fibre.
How to Take Supplements on Holiday
Generally, you can take supplements abroad without any issues. Within the EU, it is permitted to bring supplements for personal use. When travelling, take the supplements in their original packaging along with the ingredients list. If asked about the contents, you can show what's inside. Carry small quantities to avoid it being perceived as trade.
