Holiday? Don't forget these supplements
A snack here, a glass of wine there; when you're on holiday, you often eat and drink differently than at home. Are you travelling to Asia? Your stomach might need some time to adjust to the spicy food, or what about the greasy tapas in Spain? Also, tap water is not safe to drink in every country. Nevertheless, you might ingest some contaminated water, for example, through ice cubes in drinks or vegetables and fruits washed with tap water.
Probiotics
Probiotics are often recommended for travel. Pay attention to the following points with probiotics: Which bacterial strains are included and are they scientifically supported? Choose a form that is easy to take with you on your travels, such as capsules. Are you experiencing any issues? Consult the treatment protocol for the desired dosage per indication.
Multivitamins
On holiday, we're often less strict with ourselves and might eat less healthily. To ensure you still get enough nutrients, consider taking a multivitamin as a supplement to your diet.
Fibre
As Dutch people, we often consume a lot of fibre through brown/whole-grain bread. Fibre is also found in fruits and vegetables. Abroad, white bread is often preferred, so make sure you get enough fibre while on holiday. You can do this by taking psyllium husk with you; a natural source of soluble fibre.
How do I take supplements with me on holiday?
You can often take supplements abroad without any issues. Within the EU, it is permitted to bring supplements for personal use. When travelling, carry the supplements in their original packaging with an ingredient list. If asked about the contents, you can show what's inside. Also, take small quantities, so it cannot be perceived as commercial trade.
