Tocopherols and tocotrienols
Vitamin E is an essential, fat-soluble nutrient that consists of a family of four tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta) and four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta). The tocotrienols differ from the tocopherols in that the former have unsaturated side chains with three double bonds. Tocopherols have saturated side chains without double bonds. In food, vitamin E is found in all these eight forms. However, in dietary supplements, only alpha-tocopherol is usually used. There is increasing evidence that the other forms of vitamin E also play an important role in maintaining good health and have a synergistic effect with each other. This unique vitamin E complex has therefore been developed based on the most recent scientific insights.
