What is Nannochloropsis?
Nannochloropsis, or Marine Phytoplankton, is a microscopic plant that sits right at the bottom of the food chain. For a billion years, all living creatures, both in the ocean and on land, have been directly dependent on phytoplankton. This oceanic plant provides about 70% of all the oxygen on Earth. Like land plants, phytoplankton perform photosynthesis, using sunlight to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen.
